The AMD Radeon R7 M265 graphics processor is built using a 28nm fabrication process from TSMC. Based on AMD’s first-generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, this GPU was initially released in January 2014. With approximately 950 million transistors on the die, the R7 M265 is a lower mid-range mobile graphics solution. It has 384 GCN stream processors and 2GB of DDR3 memory paired with a 256KB L2 cache subsystem.
The R7 M265 has a peak theoretical performance of 633.6 GFLOPS (billion floating point operations per second). Positioned below top-tier mobile GPUs of the time, the M265 brought modest gaming capabilities to mainstream laptops, with support for DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.3, and AMD Mantle APIs. Though not high-end, it outperformed integrated graphics of the era and handled casual 3D workloads and 1080p gaming adequately.
