iPhone 16 Camera Design Confirmed. An intriguing new leak suggests that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 could feature a radically different rear camera design.
Noted Apple leaker Majin Bu recently shared an image on Twitter claiming to show the rear camera chassis for the standard iPhone 16 model. Unlike recent iPhones that have used a diagonal camera layout, this component shows a vertical triple camera arrangement.
Industry sources have verified that this leaked image does indeed show an authentic iPhone 16 component. The reliable Apple news site MacRumors also confirmed through its sources that this part is intended for the base iPhone 16 model set for release later this year.
If accurate, this signals a major change to the iconic iPhone camera design. While some past iPhone models like the iPhone X and iPhone 12 have used a similar vertical layout, recent models since the iPhone 11 have all opted for the distinctive diagonal camera bump on the back.
It’s unclear if the potential shift to a vertical camera is only cosmetic or if Apple has functional changes in mind as well. One possibility floated by analysts is that Apple could be planning to bring its Spatial Video feature for 3D capture to more iPhone models. Currently, this feature is limited to iPhone models with a LiDAR sensor.
Of course, we can’t take leaked images like this as gospel truth about Apple’s final plans. But with the number of leaks pointing to a new camera design, it does seem highly likely that the iPhone 16 will break from tradition.
As we get closer to the iPhone 16 launch later this year, we should learn more about what other camera upgrades may be in store and how Apple intends to differentiate its various models across the lineup. But for now, a return to a vertical camera does appear to be one change coming to the iPhone 16 based on the building evidence.
