LEM Foldable Phone. Huawei is allegedly preparing to expand its lineup of foldable devices with a new flip phone codenamed “LEM,” according to recent rumors. The launch could take place as early as February 2024.
The initial leak of the mysterious device came from Huawei distributor @看山的叔叔 on Weibo. Details remain sparse, but they revealed it will use a clamshell folding design similar to the P50 Pocket and run on a 5G-enabled Kirin chipset.
Prolific leaker Fixed Focus Digital also tipped that Huawei may officially announce the LEM flip phone shortly after February 10, following Chinese New Year celebrations. Pre-orders could kick off after February 24 once the Lantern Festival concludes.
Huawei currently sells three categories of foldable – the stylish Pocket series, tablet-sized Mate X models, and compact Mate Xs devices. Despite only two generations so far, the futuristic Pocket flip phones have already grabbed 29.6% of China’s foldable market share in 2023.
The most recent Pocket series entrant is 2022’s Pocket S, priced around USD 695. Key highlights include a versatile 6.9-inch foldable OLED main display and a handy 1.04-inch exterior OLED for quick notifications. Both screens boast high 120Hz refresh rates and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage for immersion.
Under the hood lies a Snapdragon 778G chipset and HarmonyOS software. The Pocket S equips a capable 40MP main camera featuring Huawei’s RYYB sensor and f/1.8 aperture, plus a 13MP ultrawide module. A 10.7MP punch-hole camera handles selfies.
For optimal performance, Huawei implemented an ultra-thin bendable graphite sheet inside for dissipating heat. Battery capacity stands at 4,000mAh with support for brisk 40W charging. Huawei claims the Pocket S hinge mechanism endured 400,000 folds during stressful testing to guarantee long-term durability.
As for the mysterious “LEM” flip phone, concrete details are still unknown. But with the Pocket series performing well and foldables gaining traction, a new model would make strategic sense for Huawei to maintain momentum in an increasingly competitive sphere. We’ll have to wait for official word on what surprises they have in store.
