Apple is working on a 7-8″ foldable iPhone for 2026-2027

Apple foldable iPhone for 2026-2027. The foldable smartphone segment has been gaining steam recently, with brands like Samsung, Motorola, and Oppo launching various models. According to fresh reports from Korean media outlets, Apple is also internally developing its first foldable iPhone that could debut in 2026 or 2027.

Apple Foldable iPhone Display Size and Timeline

Citing industry sources, the reports suggest Apple’s foldable iPhone prototype has a screen size between 7 to 8 inches when unfolded. This puts it squarely in small tablet territory, and the device could potentially replace the iPad Mini in Apple’s portfolio.

Mass production is slated to begin around 2026-2027 if all goes smoothly during the testing phase. It would represent Apple’s first foray into the foldable market, quite a few years after Android brands.

Apple OLED iPad Plans

Interestingly, Apple is also said to be working on an iPad Mini with an OLED display to launch as early as 2024. This has led to some confusion regarding Apple’s plans. It remains to be seen if an OLED iPad Mini will co-exist with the 7-8 inch foldable or if the latter will completely replace it.

Panel Supply Chain

As per supply chain checks, both Samsung Display and LG Display have provided foldable display samples to Apple in various sizes. Samsung has shared 6-7 inch units while LG has provided slightly larger 7-8 inch panels.

If the device reaches the mass production stage, Samsung Display could likely get the initial orders owing to its vast experience and high yield rates before LG Display comes on board, too.

Apple foldable iPhone release date

In addition to the foldable iPhone, Apple is purportedly developing an even larger 20-inch foldable device that could be marketed as an iPad or Mac. But this would come even later, with reports pointing to a 2028 timeline.
