MediaTek Dimensity 9300: A Game-Changer in Smartphone Technology

The latest flagship chipset from MediaTek, the Dimensity 9300, is set to rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in upcoming Chinese Android flagship smartphones. It succeeds the Dimensity 9200 and offers numerous updates. The Dimensity 9300 will power devices like the vivo X100 and OPPO Find X7, competing with chipsets such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Apple A17 Pro, Google Tensor G3, and Exynos 2400.

The Dimensity 9300 is constructed using TSMC’s third-generation 4nm+ process and features an all-big core CPU design. It includes a prime Cortex-X4 core at 3.25GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 cores at 2.85GHz, and 4 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz, all based on Armv9 architecture. MediaTek claims a 40% improvement in peak performance compared to the Dimensity 9200 with 33% less power usage. It also boasts a 12-core Immortalis-G720 MC13 GPU with hardware-based ray tracing, offering a 46% improvement over its predecessor while using 40% less power.

The Dimensity 9300 chipset supports LPDDR5T RAM at speeds of 9,600Mbps and UFS 4.0 storage with Multi-Circular Queue (MCQ) support. AI processing is handled by the APU 790, supporting Generative AI with quick Stable Defusion generation and LLM with up to 33 billion parameters. Image capture is managed by the Imagiq 990 ISP with always-on HDR, capable of handling up to 8K video at 30 fps or 4K at 30/60 fps with cinematic mode and real-time bokeh.

The Dimensity 9300 display supports resolutions of 4K at 120Hz refresh rate and WQHD at 180Hz refresh rate, making it suitable for dual-active displays in foldable devices. This chipset can handle up to 320MP camera sensors for photography and enables continuous HDR video recording in cinematic mode at 30 fps and up to 4K quality at 60 fps. The chipset also supports Android 14’s Ultra HDR format. The vivo X100 series is expected to launch with the Dimensity 9300 platform, and other Android manufacturers are likely to adopt it in the near future.

In terms of connectivity, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 offers enhanced long-range connectivity with Xtra Range Technology and WiFi-7. It also supports Bluetooth 5.4, 4×4 MIMO, sub-6GHz, NFC, USB-C 3.2,  and mmWave 5G capabilities.
