Honor MagicOS 8.0 Launch Timeline Announced with intent-based UI and platform-level AI.

Honor MagicOS 8.0 Launch Timeline. Earlier today, Honor unveiled its latest mobile operating system, MagicOS 8.0, at a special event in China. This new iteration is built on Android 14 and introduces a MagicLM on-device large language model with 7 billion parameters. Honor also highlighted the intent-based user interface (IUI) of MagicOS 8.0 that proactively recommends apps and services based on user behavior.

Another significant addition is the Magic Portal feature, which uses Honor’s LLM and IUI to provide context-specific app and service shortcut suggestions with a side-swipe gesture. During the demonstration, they showed how one can drag a booking reservation from the messaging app to the maps app for directions to the location.

The Magic Portal supports multimodal input like text and images as well as gesture and eye movement tracking on compatible Honor phones. Users can press and hold images of clothes and then drag them sideways for in-app shopping searches. While Honor confirmed support for China’s top 100 apps, it remains unclear if or how these features will be implemented in other regions. Alongside these features, MagicOS 8.0 offers new home screen customization options, UI speed enhancements, and reduced resource consumption due to optimizations made by Honor’s software team.

A novel shake-to-block ads function helps users avoid irritating pop-ups, while Parallel Spaces allows two instances of an app to run simultaneously system-wide. The new OS version will debut on the upcoming flagship series, Honor Magic6.
