Huawei has unveiled an upgraded version of its budget noise-canceling earbuds – the Huawei FreeBuds 4E 2024. While retaining the core features and design of their predecessor, these new TWS earphones offer longer total battery life.

Design and Hardware
Much like the original FreeBuds 4E from 2022, the new 2024 model sports an open-fit design for comfortable long-duration wearing. The 14.3mm dynamic drivers and semi-open ear tips are also very similar. For connectivity, you get Bluetooth 5.2 and support for quick pairing with Android phones.

Active noise cancellation is enabled through a three-microphone setup and what Huawei calls Active Noise Cancellation 2.0 tech. It noticeably cuts out ambient noise in the low to mid-frequency ranges. There is also an ENC or environmental noise cancellation algorithm at work during voice calls to suppress external disturbances and feedback.

This is where the FreeBuds 4E 2024 improves upon last year’s model. The earbuds themselves deliver the same playback time, but when you factor in the charging case, the numbers go up. With ANC turned off, you now get 26 hours of total audio playback. Even with ANC on, it provides up to 17 hours of use, which is 3 hours more than before.
Quick Charging
While battery capacity has increased, charging times have stayed the same. Plugging the case in for just 5 minutes gives you an additional 2 hours of playtime. Fully topping up the 550mAh case takes 60 minutes, and the earbuds take 40 minutes for a complete charge cycle.
Missing Features
Unlike their precursor, the new FreeBuds miss out on the IP64 certification for dust and water resistance. So, you do have to be a bit more careful using them outdoors or during workouts when it comes to liquids and debris exposure. The number of color options has also been cut down to just Frost Silver and Ceramic White.

The Huawei FreeBuds 4E 2024 TWS earphones are priced at CNY 699 in China. However, Huawei is currently offering them for CNY 499 only on its official online store, Huawei Mall. Global pricing and release details are awaited. But overall, these earbuds seem to be a nice improvement over the previous model with the boosted battery backup.
