Nokia G42 5G Receives Android 14 Software Update. HMD Global has started rolling out the Android 14 update to its budget 5G smartphone, the Nokia G42 5G. Weighing in at a hefty 2.68GB, the update brings a host of new features and improvements to the device.

The Nokia G42 5G was launched in mid-2022 with Android 12 out of the box. This Android 14 update, carrying the software version 2.160, keeps the phone up-to-date into 2024. It also includes the latest December 2023 Android security patch.

New Features and Enhancements

Some of the key additions with this update include:

Health Data Management – Better tools to aggregate and analyze health metrics from various apps and sensors. Users can now conveniently access and manage health data.

App Data Permissions – The update shows clearer prompts for allowing or denying app permissions to access private data like location, storage, microphone, etc. This enables users to make more informed choices.

Inclusive Features – There are improved visual, hearing and cognitive assistance features such as screen/camera flashes for notifications, text-to-speech, larger display fonts and adaptive interface scaling.

Battery Insights – Detailed statistics showing screen usage since full charge allows for optimizing battery life as required. 

Customization – More options for customizing the look through wallpapers, icon packs, themes, and an updated lock screen with templates.

Sharing Menu – The new share user interface makes it quicker to share content across apps and contacts.

Predictive Back Gestures – An AI-based model predicts if the user wants to go back to the previous screen.

The update also brings UI changes to some pre-loaded apps and system optimization overall for faster performance.
